This series consists of reports, research, photographs, newspaper clippings and correspondence relating to entomological surveys of mosquito and sandfly populations across the Northern Territory and associated issues. Includes correspondence and reports relating to the 1970 investigation of mosquito numbers at the proposed town site of Nhulunbuy including surveys of collected specimens, a map of Gove Peninsula (identifying water sources and existing or proposed infrastructure), a handwritten report identifying the types of mosquitos in the area, and a copy of a 1970 report Malaria prevention and Anopheline eradication programme: Gove. Further mosquito surveys were carried out in 1977-1978 relating to Alice Springs, Adelaide River, Gove, Pine Creek, Jabiru, Batchelor and Groote Eylandt with 7 photographs relating to Nhulunbuy and Buffalo Creek. A small number of records relate to the types of species and location of sandflies in the Darwin area, including 1959 report. Further correspondence relates to discussions and advice regarding the collection of specimens, proposals for the investigation of malaria transmission, the estimation of potential mosquito hazards with rice cultivation, and the effectiveness of air spraying to reduce mosquito populations. A copy of the 1957 report The influence of the production of rice upon the mosquito population at Humpty Doo in 1956-7 includes tables showing the number of various mosquito species collected at surrounding locations (including 1 Mile, the Experimental Rice Farm, and Fogg Dam) and a hand drawn map of the area. Other reports include: Mosquito investigations on malaria transmission at Roper River Mission NT during 1956 and 1957; 1949 reports on Darwin Airport mosquito survey and Mosquito control in Darwin.
